Otamatea Crowns Its Carnival Queen
It is estimated that 400 cars were parked in the vicinity of the Garrison Hall, Paparoa, last night, when the big crowning ceremony and dance was held to mark the conclusion of the Otamatea Centennial Queen Carnival. More than 700 people were present, and two traffic officers and a policeman were kept fully occupier in handling the traffic. Even under their direction the road
congestion was so great that cars were forced to wait a quarter of a mile from the hall, while those in front found parking places. Miss Heather Lang, of Ruawai, was crowned Queen of the Carnival, in nn elaborate ceremony, interspersed with items, in which Maori people took a prominent part, while the leader of the well-known dance band that supplied the music, considered the dance, which concluded the proceedings to be the best-organised and most successful he had seen for some time.
