Whangarei Resident Donates Deep-Sea Fishing Trophy

“I would like to pay a tribute to the sporting qualities of the launchmen connected with this club,” said Mr R. A. Stevenson, of Whangarei, at the annual meeting of the Bay of Islands Swordfish and Mako Shark Club, when the meeting was declared open for general business. “They are the backbone of your club and they are as fine a crowd of sportsmen as it has been my pleasure to meet, and to show my personal appreciation I desire to donate a trophy to the club for annual competition, but I donate it on one condition only. That condition is that the launchmen have the sole power to decide just how the frophy will be competed for and to what section of the sport it will go. I have sufficient faith in your launchmen to know that the trophy will be used to the greatest advantage. The trophy will be in your hands in the near future.” This statement brought forth acclamation, and Mr Stevenson was heartily thanked for his generous offer.

Rotarian D. Wilson was the speaker at the Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon yesterday. His talk on pigeons, their core and achievements, was of a most interesting character, the speaker revealing himself as an enthusiastic bird-lover.
