The Spear Trial
(Received 2.0 p.m.) LONDON, July 17. It lias been officially announced at Shanghai that the court-martial of Lieutenant-Colonel Spear, the British officer accused of espionage activities, was begun at Kalgan to-day. The official Japanese spokesman at Peking, however, declared that the report that the trial commenced today was untrue, and said the date had not yet been fixed.
