CONSIDERING the comparatively small amount of riding he does over fences, A. E. Ellis is regarded as lucky, as well as capable, in big races. But it has not all been cream. He has had his leg broken twice, both collarbones broken, and his jaw broken in two places. At times the accidents have been very costly, as they have deprived him of several profitable mounts.
Curie’s Earnings. The ten-year-old Curie, who won the big hurdle race at the recent Trentham meeting, has raced every season since he was a two-year-old. He has contested 98 races, for 20 wins and 23 minor placings. and has won £2623 in stakes. Not For Australia. Eeaulivre. the leading two-year-old of the season in New Zealand, will be a contestant in the Wanganui Guineas in September, all going well in the meantime with the Beau Here —Passbook colt. Beaulivre’s new owner, Mr E. Harnett, of Wellington, stated that he had no intention of racing the colt in Australia. Beaulivre has gone into S. J. Reid's stable, at Hastings. Supertax Sold. Supertax, one of the most brilliant performers raced in New Zealand during the last few years, has been purchased by Mr James Hand, of Perth. Possibly the object in buying him is to have representation in the inter-Dominion championships, to be decided at Perth in February next.
