Great Excitement at H.Q.

£l5O/0/10 Received Up-To-Date

44 Holiday-makers Send Guarantees "JF we had another 15/-,” sighed the Princess, her eyes I cried. "If only that telegram from Whirinaki would arrive,”groaned the Olliee Boy. "If only someone would give us a surprise donation,” Then a donation from Raie Bleakley. Kaikohe, arrived by Earlier yesterday we wished and wished for 25/-. ccme true, the last post, leaving only another 15/- to make our wish a-ciance with excitement. Whirinaki. you’ll read, had a good show spoiled by a bad night. The schoolteacher, Mr Robinson, expected several contributions to arrive from people who wanted to attend the picture evening-concert, but who just could not do so. He promised a telegram on Monday. I could bear the suspense no’ longer, and at last the telephone wires between Whatigarei and Rawene began to hum. “Sixteen shillings so far.” said the voice of Mrs Robin son. at Whirinaki. "We did not telegraph, bccaue the money is still coming in.” “Sixteen shillings!” I shouted, and hanged down the receiver to tell lI.Q. the good news, WE HAD PASSED THE £l5O MARK! Seems only the other day w'e were hoping and struggling hard for our fast £IOO. Only last Tuesday we announced the glad tidings that the hundred mark had been touched. In a week we have gone half-way to the second hundred!* Is it any wonder that H.Q. is in a turmoil? After a fortnight away, I expected the office to be topsy-turvy. But mailbag, competition entries— everything has had to give way to this avalanche of glad tidings. We’ve to thank goodness knows how many people for making this huge advance possible. There arc the Hokianga and Bay of Islands folk, who so generously supported the Kupc Club picture evenings; there’s Hikurangi Hapu-and a special word for DesJ Wyatt, who is first ilikurangi Ilapu member to earn his full £5; there is Tapuhi, with its concert, and Pataua with its dance. If Ararau carries on at the rate it is going, Matapouri will be left standing. You’ve heard of meteors that suddenly appear cut of the night sky, growing brighter and blighter. Ararua is just like that. First they had nothing, then In tw;o or three jumps have added over £ll to our acknowledgement list. A card, evening raised them £5/11/G. Pakaraka also has to thank a card evening for £3/5/-, and Pataua owes its £2/3/51 to a most successful dance. Whananaki has been on the war path, too, and with contributions raised £l/14/6 in the week. It’s impossible to mention everyone here. But need wc?’ There’s £l5O in hand to date and guarantees for another 44 Northlanders. More than 70 Young Northlanders so far for Wellington! The Kupc Club’s aim is to bring sunshine into the lives of others. We’re doing it, Northlanders. Keep up the

good work. £ S. d. Matahourua (Whangarei) Hapu Show Stall 10 n 0, Matahourua (Whangarei) Hapu Sale of Baskets i 3 Ararua Card Evening 5 n G Ilikurangi Collection— £ s. d.
