1940 Centennial Winter Exhibition
“I will be very disappointed if we,, are not in our new, building for the' 1940 Winter Exhibition,” remarked the|| president of the Whangarei A. and P.,, Society, Mr H. W. James, last night. " He was speaking at a meeting of the committee of the association, when it was revealed that although the 1939 j exhibition was held only a few weeks | ago, plans for next year’s Northland? Centennial display are well in hand. I It is hoped that in addition to the | improved facilities and greatly in-? creased floor space available in the| new building, numerous now features | will bo in evidence. | Northland Court. j A special feature will be the North- \ | land court which will previously have j been displayed at the New Zealand j Centennial Exhibition, Wellington. ] There was a full attendance of com-j mittee members at the meeting, andj the utmost enthusiasm was displayed.; Much time was spent in revision of | the schedule, and the allocation of; new classes and prizes. Chief Stewards. - Tire following chief stewards were appointed for the various sections.— Bacon. Mr H. W. Ellis; photography, Mr R. L. Drummond; educational, Mr K. Hayr; entertainments. Mr A. Snow; farm and garden, Mr A. Horne; flow- ! ers, Miss Carruth; fruit, Mr P. P. Hawken; honey and bee products, Mr H. Holdaway; master bakers. Mr A. Taylor: models. Messrs S. J. Snow and J. Taylor; needlework, Mrs E. Wilson; wool, Mr J. W. Bell; women’s institutes, Mrs J. Ross; gates, Mr A. K. Franks: sideshows, Mr F. J. Howie; weight guessing, Mr W. T. Knowles; j school children’s garden, Mr C. V. Stringer.
County Displays. An endeavour is about to be made for a display of county courts from throughout Northland, and in this connection county court committees are to be offered assistance to the extent of £lO and free transport for their exhibits. If possible arrangements are to be made with the Whangarei Borough Council for all transport buses entering and leaving Whangarei to pass close to the exhibition grounds. The secretary, Mr C. P. Butler, was instructed to write to London with a view to obtaining a special wool display.
