High School Board Election Mrs. V. Donaldson and Mr. C. V. Stringer have been elected to the Whangarei High School Board. Mr. L. A. Johnson was also nominated. Voting resulted: Mrs. Donaldson 359, Mr. Stringer 386, Mr. Johnson 248. Eight informal votes were cast.

Changeable Weather Last Week. Most changeable weather prevailed in Northland last week. Rain fell on six of the seven days, the total recorded at Whangarei being 1.03 inches, with a maximum of .79inch on July 11. A frost heralded the only fine day of the week. This was the second frost this year. Milder conditions returned at the week-end, and again today. In North Hokianga, the weather alternated between bright sunshine and sou’-westerly and northerly winds. jjt $ & Footballer Receives Concussion. A severe kick on the head was received by David Parkes, a married man aged 28 years, when playing for the Whangarei combined Rugby League team at Kensington Park on Saturday, against the Richmond senior reserves, Auckland. The mishap took place early in the game, and Parkes continued playing for some time, but was forced to leave the field before the end of the spell. He was found to be suffering from concussion, and was admitted to the Whangarei District Hospital on Saturday evening, where he is reported to be still slightly dazed condition.

Centennial Baby Carnival A baby carnival to further the funds of Miss Teddy Searle, Combined Services and Professional Queen, is being arranged. With £7/7/- as the first prize, accompanied by a framed enlargement of the winning baby, and cash prizes or christening mugs for the first 11 placings, the prize list is nothing if not attractive. The contest is open to babies under three years of age. No entrance fee is charged and free portraits of each baby will be supplied. Entries for the competition should be sent to Mr. D. J. Adams, Bank of Now Zealand, Whangarei. Photographs of baby contestants will be on show in the window of Messrs. R. G. Hosking Ltd., the winner to be, decided by penny votes. Byles, a member of the Mata team, was chagrined to see his shot at goal hit the inside of the corner-post, rebound, and run along (fully three-quarters of the length of the three-inch wide line at the mouth of the goal. The ball, instead of crossing over the line, which would have meant a goal, came back into play, and the opportunity was lost. * * * World Girl Guide Camp News received from Hungary by the Girl Guides’ Association indicates that the world girl guide camp to be held at Godollo this month will not be cancelled. Six New Zealand guiders from different provinces will represent the New Zealand Girl Guide Association. Godollo is 17i miles from Budapest. It is famous for its ancient Royal castle, which is now the summer residence of the Regent of Hungary. The camp site covers an. area of 300 acres of the big park's which surround the Royal castle, and these grounds have been offered by the Regent for the purpose fo the world camp. Each contingent will have a Hungarian Girl Scout, who will act as interpreter and share in the life of the contingent during the camp. .
