Unhappy Family Away From New Zealand
(Received 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
Sharp differences of opim'on existing among New Zealanders living in Sydney with regard to social gatherings were revealed last night at a large meeting convened by the New Zealand Women’s Association 4 to form a new organisation for men and women. Several speakers said it was ridiculous that four New Zealand clubs should be attempting to function in Sydney. Strife and discontent socially had existed for years. Mrs E. Hempton, organising secretary of the New Zealand Club, which is a rival body, said she was insulted at the door when trying to enter the meeting, and was told she was not allowed to attend, though finally permitted to do so.
Sir Benjamin Fuller said that the 30,000 New Zealanders in Sydney should try to live at peace. The meeting decided to fo?m a new organisation.
Mr Taylor, New Zealand Trade Commissioner, though confined to his home through indisposition, staled by 'telephone that he wanted to see one body in Sydney and Melbourne..
