Waipu Institute Vice Versa Dance
' A very successxul vice versa dance organised by the local Women’s Institute was held in the Waipu public hall. The takings, which amounted to approximately £3O, were handed over by the Waipu Institute president, Mrs A. Donaldson, for the Centennial funds. The hall had been gaily decorated with red and white' streamers and dancing to orchestral music was indulged in by a big crowd. Mr A. J. Brookes acted as M.C. Extras were played by Messrs A. Highham and J. Durham (piano) and C. McGregor (bagpipes).
The grand parade, when the costumes were judged, was a very spectacular proceeding. It was headed by a bridal party .and included all manner of costumes, from the daintiest chiffon ensembles to wet weather outfits for golf.
The judges were Mesdames R. Fraser and C. Mcßae, of Paparoa. The following awards were made.— Best couple.—Miss Islay McLean (gent) and Mr Bill Norward, who looked graceful in a black lace evening gown, white fur coatee and black satin shoes.
Best man .as woman. —Mr R. Dobbie, backless evening frock of apricot georgette with red accessories.
Best woman as man (comic). Mrs J C. McKay, nigger boss.
Best woman as man.—Mrs' A. K. Russell. Best man as woman (comic).—-Mr Dingle, “Mae West.”
Waiharara W.D.F.U. Holds Monthly Meeting
The Waiharara branch of the Women’s Division of the Union held its monthsly meeting in the hall. Although the weather was unsettled a very pleasant gathering took place. Mrs Lucietich. vice-president, presided.
A piece of the Kaitaia branch s birthday cake was cut.
The prize winners for the afternoon were. —Scones, Mrs M. Shroj, sem., cushions, done in wool work, Mrs A. Jackson.
The competitions for next month are to be—A peg bag made from a flour bag; and best vase of flowers. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Lucietich and Miss Ella Steed.
Onerahi The Onerahi Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting on July 4. Twenty-two, members and four visitors were present.
Mrs E. Dyer, presided Mrs Hirtzell was present and gave a very interesting report -on her visit to Kaikohe, Mrs J. P. Harrison gave a demonstration on beaten copper. „ _ '
The roll call, “Something we have made,” brought forward some very nice work in cooking, sewing, knitting and leather-work.
The meeting closed with the singing of the Women’s Institute songs and a very hearty vote of thanks to Mesdames Hirtzell and Harrison. Hostesses for' the afternoon were Mesdames Lyons, Paris, B. Stewart and Miss Handforth.
