Trawlers Idled

ISpecial to “Northern Advocate”]

CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday

The steam trawlers Phyllis and Cowan are idle in Lyttelton as the result of a dispute between the crows and owners.

The men are reported to be dissatisfied with an agreement recently made about pay and conditions, desiring in particular to have the week-ends in port.

The tide has turned in favour of British shipbuilders, whose yards have increased merchant ship construction from 71,150 tens to 402,080 tons during the quarter ending July 30. Continental yards have declined from 650.845 tons to 480,728 tons.
