Rainfall at Whangarei, The rainfall in Whangarei township for the 24 hours ended at 9 o’clock this morning, recorded at the Nixon Street observatory, was .79 inches. Several players for the Northland Rugby trial match at Dargaville on Saturday are unavailable owing to injury. They are: C. White and Brydon (Whangarei), G. Smith (Northern Wairo?) and Smith, the Whangaroa forward. It is possible that Green, of Whangarei, will replace one of the half-backs.
Probate Granted. T The Supreme Court has granted probate of the will of Peter Jones, late of Whangarei, settler, to the Public Trustee, the executor named in the will. ~ A
Table Tennis Meeting. Especially in the country .areas, table tennis is fast gaining in popularity in Whangarei arid district. Owing to the inclement weather, there was only a small attendance of enthusiasts at a meeting of the Whangarei Table Tennis Club last night, but it was agreed that play should commence in Warrington’s Studio on Thursday of next week. Officers are to be elected later. *
Laid To Rest. Testifying to the respect in which the late. Mr A. G.'Symes, of Whareora, was held, by country; and.o town interests alike, there was a large and' widely representative attendance at his funeral yesterday afternoon. A short service, confined: to members of the immediate family circle, was ■ held at the residence, while the waiting cars congregated at Glenbervie Church, and followed the cortege at Ketenikau Cemetery. The officiating ; minister was the Rev. R. Heaslip, Vicar of Kaurihohore parish. The casket and precincts of the grave- were bowered in beautiful floral - emblems.
