New Exhibition Buildings Definitely Decided Upon
An executive meeting of the Whangarei A. and P. Society was held last evening, the president, Mr H. W. James, presiding. It was definitely decided to proceed with the scheme of constructing new buildings on the recently-acquired property of 16 facing Carruth Street, and to have them ‘ready for the Northland 1940 Centennial Winter Exhibition.
The executive realises lhp. enormous amount of preliminary work ‘necessary, and it is hoped to make a definite start with the construction of the buildings before Christmas, and it proposed to use, as a basis, a main building enclosing 50,000 square fefet
of floor spec. Before the plans are finalised, the executive intends to obtain the opinion of the various committees and stewards as to the most suitable type of structure that will fill for many years the needs of Northland and exhibitors from other parts of New Zealand, and from Australia. Mr A. K. Franks, vice-president, reported that the plank of kauri measuring 16ft by 4ft by 2Jin, which «vas exhibited at the recent exhibitiion, has been generously donated to the society by Mr C. R. Shortland, of Rangiahua, and it was decided to have it properly dressed and used as a permanent exhibit in the forecourt of the new Exhibition Buildings.
