RACING NEWS
This Week’s Racing.
The only two race meetings this week are hunt fixtures at Hawke’s Bay and Waimate, both on Saturday.
I Transfer cf Diamond Cutter. Diamond Cutter, who was secured at Trentham last week by Mr A. McMullian, of Stratford, has joined H. , Scally’s team.
Promising Display. Sir Nigel gave a promising display over six hurdles at Hastings on Tuesday. drawing attention to his chances at the Hunt meeting next Saturday.
Agog For Sale. Agog, who has engagements at the Grand National meeting, is to be submitted at auction at Pukekohe tomorrow. Dispatched Without Barrier. The two steeplechase events at Tren • tham last week starting from tho mile and a-quarter post in front of tho stands were dispatched without using the barrier.
To Ride at Hastings,
The Auckland jockey, L. Dulieu, will be riding at the Hawke’s Bay Hunt Club’s meeting at Hastings on Saturday, when his mounts will include Kinkajou and Granvalc.
Name Claimed
The name of Lady Govern has been claimed for the rising two-year-old Leighon—Misgovern filly in D. McCauley’s stable at Trentham. The filly is a half-sister to Improvident.
In Good Hands,
Export, who made his debut as a jumper at Trentham last week, has since joined up with A. Jenkins's team at Opaki. His education in the jumping department will be continued.
Safety Margin?
The safety margin for the mile and a-quarter post at Trentham is 24, but it would have been difficult to fit many more horses into line there than the 18 that started in the Parliamentary Handicap last Thursday.
Favourite Checked,
From statements by the riders, the hot favourite, Quadroon, suffered a serious check on the* turn in the Parliamentary Handicap at Trentham on Thursday. He was put right off his balance, and he also interfered with Kena, who came on afterwards to finish third.
Wild Chase For SimT. Wild Chase, who finished racing in the autumn, has been resting at the stables of H. and A. Cutts for a few weeks, but he is to be sent this week to the Stonyhurst Stud, where ho will take up stud duty. He is a five-year-old by Paper Money from Wild Hind, and proved himself a good horse in his four seasons of racing. Below Their Average. South Island stables usually take a substantial share of the spoils at Trentham in July, but the only winners from those parts last week were Survey, Slayer (twice), Mount Val, Fleet Street and Wagner. The South's main success was in the three leading cross-country events. Trentham stables have a lean time this year, their only return being seconds with Toper and Royal Show, and a third with Kena.
Minimum Weight. An alteration was effected at Friday's meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference to the rule governing the
minimum of 7.0 to be carried in the two principal flat races on each day of a meeting, and of 7.7 in'any flat race in which an apprentice jockey is entitled to claim an allowance, during the period September 1 to May 31 of the following year. Originally, the Manawatu Club had asked that the minimums be not obligatory, but a suggestion that the period in which it operated be reduced by one month, making the restriction apply only till April 30, was deemed acceptable by the club’s delegates.
