Additional Bay Memorials Proposed
[Special to “Northern Advocate"] OHAEAWAI, This Day.
The Kawakawa Centennial Committee’s application for a Plunket Room memorial was approved at Tuesday night’s meeting of .the Bay of Islands sub-zone executive. A plan of the proposed building was presented, and, after the matter had been briefly discussed, a motion approving the scheme was unanimously carried. The proposed structure is to be a brick building, 21 feet 6 inches by 20 feet, with a tile roof. The interior is to be divided into a waiting-room, lobby, weighing-room, and a testing-room. Memorials Approved. Advice was received that the National Council had approved the following memorials in the Bay:— Russell: Establishment of a community centre. Kerikeri; Bathing pavilion. Waimate North: Concrete grandstand. Kaikohe: Erection of a public library. Bay area: An historical record. | The Kaikohe hall memorial scheme, which was approved by the Auckland Provincial Council, was not approved by the National Council. A sub-committee, comprising the chairman, secretary, and Mr Williams, of Kawakawa, was appointed to consider memorial proposals to be brought forward by the Russell and Paihia committees. I
