Children Watch Father's Fearful Death at Zoo
(Received 11.0 a.m.) QUEBEC. July 3. A SHOCKING FATALITY OCCURRED AT THE QUEBEC ZOO TO-DAY. WHILE THE TWO CHILDREN OF DR. JOSEPH GERMAIN LOOKED ON HORRIFIED, THEIR FATHER WAS MAULED BY TWO POLAR BEARS.
Dr. Germain was feeding the animals with peanuts, when one put a paw through the grating and seized one of his arms, ripping it to ribbons.
The second bear immediately grasped the other shoulder, and both animals held Dr. Germain tightly against the bars. He was dead when his body fell away.
