Whangarei Croquet Club Experiences Good Season
An exceptionally good season from the point of view of the weather, and members have had almost a record of tine days of play, states the report of the Whangarei Croquet Club, presented at the annual meeting by the president, Mi's T. H. Wilson.. The balance sheet, continued the report, revealed that the club has had a very satisfactory and progressive year. The membership had shown an increase during the year. The lawns had been in very good playing order and the thanks of members were due to the green superintendent, Mrs Morrison, for the attention and time given. Top-dressing had already been put in hand in preparation for the coming season’s play and, with the amount of; work carried out, the lawns should be in excellent condition. The entries for the annual tournament held at the end of January had been a record, there being visitors from as far south as Pukekohe and Auckland. Dealing with inter-club play, the report stated that the Hikurangi club was the winner of the banner with a total of 457 points, followed by the Kensington club with 450 points, Whangarei with 409 and Portland with 287. Concluding the report, Mrs Wilson .expressed her appreciation of the sup--1 port given her during her term of office by the committee and officers of the club, especially the secretary, Mrs J. Finlayson, and the treasurer, Mrs C. H. G. Hedditch. In presenting the various trophies won during the year, Mrs Wilson said that the competitions had been keenly contested, and it was pleasing to note the good progress made in the play of some of the’ newer members. The trophy winners were: A championship, Mrs T. H. Wilson; B championship, Mrs J. Norwood; A handicap singles, Mrs J. P. Harrison; B handicap singles, Mrs Mullins; A doubles, Mrs T. H. Wilson and Mrs R. K. Pack wood; A and B. doubles, Mrs T. H. Wilson and Mrs>S. Blanshard. Officers elected for the coming year were: President, Mrs J. Walker; vicepresident, Mrs M. Staple; secretary, Mrs J. Finlayson; treasurer, Mrs C. H. ’G. Hedditch; committee, Mrs T. H. Wilson, Mrs R. H. Packwood, Mrs T. Woodman, Mrs J. Rumbal, Mrs T. C. Sloane, Mrs H. Wilson and Mrs G. Marshall, with officers. At the conclusion of the business of the meeting, afternoon tea was served, and a social hour concluded the gathering.
