City Wins Under Difficulties

. For the first time for many a day, City had trouble.in putting out a team, on Saturday, but still managed to win' creditably.

They were without the services of Pickrang’s leadership in the pack, but V. and L. Payne came to light with a great game and, with solid support from Hirtzel, showed in their true colotirs as excellent forwards, obviously benefltted from their Auckland visit. ’ Ron Lacey reappeared as half, and although rather slow in getting the ball away, on the whole gave a useful display. Bradley moved out to five-eighths and made the most of his opportunities, feeding Murray well. At the centre, a new recruit, Beatson, did excellent work, exhibiting nice judgment and a swerve which gave the opposition much trouble. Full-back Phil Child was playing a good positional game, but was more lucky than anything in his kicking. He would do better to try running his backs into position instead of using his boot.
