Unfortunate Defaults in Hokianga

Only one of the three senior games was played in Hokianga on Saturday, Broadwood defeating Waiwaka, G —3. Captains of one or two teams appear to have difficulty in gathering their players together, it being often found that: men have forsaken football for ether interests. For the sake of the club and the game, it is the duty of players to notify their captain beforehand if they will not be available.

A case was mentioned recently of a player in a senior match who took the field in such a condition that be was kicking backwards, and aiding the opposing side. If keen on the game, players should leave the celebrations part of the day until after the match.

Rangiahua Deprived of Sport

Rangfahua won by default from Maraeroa, who were unable to obtain a suitable vehicle in which to travel. Rangiahua have been unfortunate this season, as this is the fourth occasion they have turned out, only to suffer a disappointment by the non-arrival of the visiting team.

Mctukaraka won by default from Fawarenga, whose team did not arrive.

Waiwaka’s Achievements, To have held Broadwood to so low a score. Waiwaka put up £ solid defence. which resulted in the game being a great exhibition from the starting whistle. Martin, one of Broadwood’s best forwards. has been right on form this season. .He is an example for others to follow. Promising- Juniors. The two junior games provided good entertainment to spectators on Saturday. The Fawarenga-Waiwaka teams were very evenly matched. Passing and tackling were good, and there was very little really rough play on either side. The game ended with the score 3—3, a true indication,of the play.. Broadwood were beaten by Mangamuka, C —3. This proved to be an interesting display, although Mangamuka held a big advantage in weight. Broadwood have a fine team, with R. Holland and the Bridge brothers outstanding. Mangamuka’s best are the versatile Imms and John Stevens.
