Making Good Headway. Since resuming work a few weeks ago, Summary has improved a good deal, and she should be ready to race at the Pakuranga meeting in August.
Doing Well, Travenna has been doing well since the Dunedin winter meeting, and, all going well in the meantime, he will be in good shape for the Grand National meeting.
Thoroughly Educated. It was rather surprising that Peter Beckford was not nominated for either the Trentham or Winter Hurdles. The Trentham class is certainly above the ordinary novice jumper, but Peter Beckford entered the game with a thorough education, and he may have proved equal to the occasion.
Grand National Candidate. Charade, winner of the Great Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie last month, is reported to be in great order at present. The Lord Quex mare, who is trained at Grcnmeadows by H. 3. Greene, will contest the Grand National Hurdles at Riccarton next month. She is not partial to soft ground, and for that reason she will not race at Trentham.
