Mr Thomson, who is chairman of the Parks Committee of the Council, raised the matter at last night’s council meeting. He held strong views on the subject of depleting the forests, said Mr Thomson, but he did not know if the remainder cf the Council were behind him. “It is • a wide question, and many different cpmions may be expressed, said tiie Mayor,,. Mr W. Jones, who added that he agreed with Mr Thomson, and considered that ho should be allowed to act as he thought fit. Other councillors also supported this view, Cr. J. W. Parkin stating that the Council should strongly support the campaign, and this was the view of the majority of the meeting. ,
