Inquest Opened

An inquest into the death of Mr Paddy Daley, Public Works Department employee, who was killed outright when struck by a motor-truck on the Brynderwyn Deviation yesterday morning, was opened before the district coroner, Mr F. E. Collins, at Maungaturoto this morning. Proceedings were adjourned after evidence of identification had been taken. The truck, a sideshow man’s vehicle, driven by Mr Frank Brooks, of Auckland, got out of control while negotiating the southern side of the Brynderwyn hill three and a half miles north of Kax'waka, and overturned. Mr Daley, who was working on the roadside, was trapped beneath the back of the truck as it fell, and his head crushed against the roadway. Following the fatality all Public Works operations in the vicinity of Kaiwaka were sup 4 endcd for the remainder of the day.
