Miners’ Terrible Experience
[ per Press Association. — Copyright .] WESTPORT, This Bay. A married man, Mr Joseph Mason, aged 56, and his son-in-law, Mr George Geddes, aged 31, suffered injuries when they fell over 30 feet into a stony creek yesterday. The accident was caused by the collapse of fluming at the Cascade Coal Mine, over which they were exercising supervision, when a boulder knocked over one of the stays. Mr Mason managed to regain the fluming and set out to crawl to the bins. He had been seven hours on the journey before he was met by two men who were on their way to investigate, fearing an accident had happened, as no coal or water was coming through the fluming. Both the injured men were taken to hospital. Mr,Mason had head injuries and a broken ankle, as well as bruises to the body, while Mr Geddes had head injuries, a broken thigh and injuries to the other thigh.
