Japanese Freighter Ashore
SYDNEY, This Day.
The Navigation Department has received radio advice that the Japanese freighter, China Maru, of 5780 tons, bound for Sydney is ashore on St. John,lsland, about 130 miles from Rabaul. No. 1 forepeak tank is badly damaged, and the vessel ,is taking in water. Efforts to refloat her failed. The China Maru has general cargo and a crew of 50 Japanese.
