The four members of the New Zealand Davis Cup team and J. Gunn, the Aucklander, are taking part in the British lawn tennis - championships at Wimbledon, which commenced with the men’s singles. After the first round, only A. D. Brown, of Canterbury, and formerly of Auckland, C. E. Malfroy, and J. Gunn, of the Dominion’s players, remain in the event. Brown beat a German player Gulcz. Gunn won by default from Kho Sin Kie (China) and Malfroy defeated N. Sharpe (Great Britain) in a five-set match. . Results were as follows.-

A. D. Brown (N.Z.) beat Gulcz (Germany), 6-t-2, 6——2, 6—4; Smith (U.S.) beat E. D. Andrews (N.Z.), 3—6, 6—2, 6—3, 6—4; D. Mitic (Yugoslavia), beat D. C. Coombe (N.Z.), 6 —4, 11—13, 6—3, .6—l; F. Puncec (Yugoslavia), beat N. V. .Edwards (N.Z.), 6—2, 6—2, 6—3; J. Gunn (N.Z.), had a walk-over from Kho Sin Kie (China); R. Menzel (Germany), beat E. C. Peters (Britain), 6—l, 6—2, 6—3; E. T. Cooke (U.S.), beat C. Boussus (France), I—6, 6 —4, 6—l, 6—3; H. W. Austin (Britain) beat Asboth (Hungary), 6—l, 6—4, 12—10; J. Brugnon (France), beat 'F. H.
