WELLINGTON, This Day
The disputes committee appointed to go into the question of the Karori housing job dispute yesterday discussed the matters involved, namely, an extra payment of 3d an hour on account of the special conditions existing there, and the chain system of employment. of carpenters, under which it was
contended the men were employed too long on one particular job.
The majority of the committee felt, stated the report, signed by the chairman, the Hon. T. Brlndle, M.L.C., that the Karori jcb could not be classed as a preference one, in that no special conditions presented themselves.'
The committee felt that; there was no justification for increasing the rales by 3d an hour. The chain system should be retained, but where possible.
changes would be made on request, in so far as they did not affect the balance of the gangs.
