JUDGING IN THE NATIONAL BACON PIG CHAMPIONSHIP, THE OTJTSTANDING FEATURE OF THE WHANGAREI WINTER EXHIBITION, WAS COMPLETED DURING THE WEEK-END. The championship this year was on a truly Dominion-wide basis, having been arranged in eight provincial sections. Hoof judging was conducted at eight leading stock shows throughout New Zealand and the pigs were then acquired by the Whangarei A. and P. Society and held in cold storage until cured at Auckland, and then assembled at the Whangarei Winter Show for final judging as bacon. All told, 328 sides of bacon were adjudicated upon by Dr. C. P. McMeekan and Messrs H. Kneebone and F. Merritt, the display occupying twice the space of previous years and making a really outstanding bacon court. To Mr W. H. Bunning, of Midhur st, Taranaki, went the honour of annexing the bacon pig championship, his Tamworth-Berkshire cross scoring 102 points out of a possible 125. 'X Eight provincial championships were also allotted, the highest scoring pig among the 46 entered in the Northland section being a Large WhiteMiddie White cross entered by J. C.
