Spotlight 0n... Gene Tunney

Gene Tunney considers that Tony Galento has a great chance of relieving Joe Louis of his heavyweight boxing title in the fight which will take place this week. Undefeated heavyweight champion of the world himself, Tunney has the knowledge which makes his opinion worth recording, but he has been a notoriously poor judge of championship results in the past.

A former marine, Tunney fought his way to the top of the fistic free and, after relieving Jack Dem.psey of the heavyweight title, successfully retained it in a return bout with the former champion. It was he who figured in the famous “long count.” Tunney also defended and retained his title in a bout with Tom Heeney, the New Zealand heavyweight.
