Out For The Winter. Santoft, who developed a splint some weeks ago. will not be raced this winter. Trip Cancelled. Student Prince ricked a hind joint at Hawera last week, and his proposed trip to the Wellington meeting has been cancelled. Derby Stake. The value of this year's Derby, won by Blue Peter, was £7730/10/-, and there was also a £2OO trophy for his breeder-owner, Lord Rosebery. Still Eligible. Though he has won four races to date, High Test is still eligible to compete in the Trial Plate at Trentham, as none of the races has been worth over £IOO to the winner.
Going South. Captain Bruce, who was purchased recently by Mr W. Hosking, is at present under I. Tucker’s supervision at Ellerslie, but he is eventually to join F. A. Roberts’s stable at Riccarton.
Short Spell. Entail and Homily were sent out to Koatanui for a few weeks’ spell after the Wanganui meeting, but they are to be brought in again in a couple of weeks to be prepared for early spring racing.
Nothing to Spare. Among the horses engaged in the Trial Plate at Trentham next month, Treasurer, Phenomenal and Floral Robe just squeeze in, as they have each won a race worth £IOO to the winner. H. Scally’s Representatives. Silk Sox. who failed over country at Wanganui recently, is to contest the Highweight Handicap on the second day and the Winter Hurdles on the final day at Trentham. Disturbed may be reserved for the Winter Hurdles. O. Mclnaliy Injured. O. Mclnaliy, who received extensive lacerations when Jewelled Girdle fell at the Bay of Plenty meeting, was not able to fulfil riding engagements at Te Awamu.u on Saturday. However,

To Reappear at Trentham. Majbrity, who revels in the mud, is due to make his reappearance at the Wellington meeting next month. He won on the course last October.
Not For Trentham
Glenvane. who disappointed at the recent Hastings meeting, will not race at Trentham next month. He has been returned to his owner, to bo qualified as a hunter. His place in H. Dulieu’s stable has been taken by a rising two-year-old filly by Ringmaster from Variable.
Mr. G. Morrish Wins
Kaihn By-Election
The by-election for a representative of the Kaihu riding on the Hobson County Council resulted yesterday in the return of Mr George Morrish, with 57 voles. The unsuccessful aspirants were Messrs J. E. Mudford (27 votes) and S. Johanson (8). This is the first change in the representation of the riding for ovfcr 30 years, the previous councillor, Mr Vivian Trounson, being also Hobson county chairman for most of that period. The by-election was necessary following Mr Troun son’s retirement owing to ill-health. The new councillor is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs G. H. Morrish, of Hall Avenue, Whangarci.
A message from Paris states that owing to the undesirable photographic publicity in connection with the execution of the murderer, Eugene Weidemann, future guillotinings will not be in public but in prison courtyards. They will be witnessed by officials only. k
