“Son of Frankenstein” Brings Chills and Thrills to Plaza

Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi separately have made . many horror films, which, despite their weirdness, have found much favour with screen patrons. With them together little imagination is needed to anticipate thrills and chills in plenty. It was with a sense of dread anticipation that Saturday night’s audience at the Plaza Theatre awaited the screening of “Son of Frankenstein,” and when it came even the most blase experienced something of a creepy feeling down the spine. The film will be shown again tonight when patrons can accept a guarantee of excellent entertainment, withall shocking but thrilling. Basil Rathbone is the scientist’s "son who discovers that his father’s cx-ea-tion is not dead. He brings the monster back to conscious life, and egged on by Lugosi (who was the vampire of “Dracula”) an unforgettable figure as a crazed, broken-necked shepherd who has survived a hanging, Karloff continues his murdering way. Lionel Atwill, who wears a wooden arm as a result of a former encounter with the monster, is the police inspector who hunts the man-made horror through dramatic scenes, and Josephine Hutchinson and Donnie Dunagan are Hathbone’s wife and child who fall under the menace of Karloff in the thrilling final scenes.

The Rome evening newspapers feature a report that, owing to French persecution, 400 Italian families have been compelled to leave Morocco, and are to return to Italy immediately.
