If the soil becomes water-logged, dig temporary drains to carry off surplus water. We may have frosts. It is wise to erect a light frame about tender shrubs and cover with ti-tree; or keep a piece of scrim handy for covering on frosty nights. Small plants may be taken up and put in a glasshouse. When tieing the plant to a stake, care must be taken not to injure the bark of the plant, by putting a piece of rubber under the tieing material. Animal manure and bonedust may be dug in ready for spring planting of shrubs, perennial plants and annuals. The favourite lilium auratum does well here provided it is given a deep, well-drained soil. Plant now. Continue to put in hardwood cuttings of trees, shrubs and roses. Plant yellow and pink arums.
