The New Zealand High Commissioner in London, Mr W. J. Jordan, attended the funeral of Dr, C. E. McGuire, former medical superintendent at the Auckland Hospital, who died in London on June 14. He delivered an address at the church by request of, .and in the presence of, many New Zealanders.
Messages of sympathy from many countries continue to arrive at the French Admiralty in connection with the loss of the submarine Phoenix. Messages from Saigon indicate that the Phoenix may never be found.
The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” says a census shows that, inclusive of Memel land. Bohemia and Moravia, the population of the Reich is 86.800,C0G. compared with 65,200,000 when Herr Hitler came to power in 1933.
Dr. Wellington Koo. Chinese envoy, speaking in Paris, said Japan’s militarists need a cheap victory, and for this reason arc trying to bluff Western Powers. Japan will turn to another concession if it should succeed at Tientsin. The West can call Japan’s bluff by a boycott of Japanese goods and ban exports to Japan.
