Broadcasting Over Wires In Britain
RUGBY. June IG.
The Government’s decision to develop wire broadcasting to the maximum possible extent was announced in the House of Commons by the Post-master-General, Mr G. C. Tyron, who said that technical research and practical experiment carried out by the Post Office, had definitely established the possibility of providing a wire broadcast service of high quality over telephone wires without interference with their normal use for telephone purposes. One of the main considerations which had led the Government to decide on the development of wire broadcasting, was its importance from the national defence and national safety viewpoint. Although it was intended that wireless broadcasting should continue in the event of war, the wireless broadcasting service would be liable to interruption as the result of interference from which a wire service would be immune.
