Portland’s Narrow Decision
From the way Portland started in their match with Kensington at Portland, it seemed as if they were going to pile, up a cricket score. The home team set a fast pace and were throwing the ball about freely. In a Crisp back movement Conlan was there to cut in'and accept a pass at the crucial moment, for the first score within a , few minutes of the kick-off.
Portland continued to exploit the open' game and seemed unlucky not to score on several occasions.
Eventually Kensington settled down and began to turn on their best game this season, E. Child, five-eighth, being outstanding in a number of movements, with good support from Montague.
The Kensington rearguard went into action and Montague scored, Child converting to give his side a 5—3 lead.
Before the end of the spell, however, Portland came again and Pink scored to make the half-time tally: Portland 6, Kensingtbn 5.
Sensational Opening.
The opening half of the second spell was sensational, Portland piling up two tries in succession, the scorers being Conlan and Uru. At this Kensington rallied and the game devolved into a hard forward struggle with several pretty back movements. With play in the Portland half, Child landed a penalty to make the score i 2—7. ■ ' r i•; Kensington backs went away and Montague recived to register hi£ second try, but Child failed to convert. Had he been successful, the scores would have been even. Ten minutes before the end of the game Montague left the field with ,a shoulder injury. Mr Harris was the referee. 1
