Grammar Old Boys Foregather

The annual dinner of Whangarei members of the Grammar Old Boys’ Association was held at the Whangarei Hotel, when the branch president. Mr K. M. Boardman, occupied the chair. Also present was Mr T. C. Webb, president of the parent association from Auckland.

A number of representatives from contemporary associations were in attendance, together with the headmaster of the Whangarei High School, Mr A. R. Ryder.

Subsequent, to the dinner, a wellattended re-union was held at the club-house. Mount Denby golf links, when speeches and toasts were interspersed with a number of enjoyable concert items.

The following toast list was honoured. —"The School,” Mr H. Wilson, responded to by Mr A. R. Ryder, former master at the college; "Old

Boys’ Association," Mr T. H. Steadman—Mr T. C. Webb; “Kindred Associations," Mr W. A. Beattie—members oi other associations present; "The Artists,” Mr N. Armit —Mr H. Gribble; "The Whangarei Golf Club.” Mr L. J. Michaels. An interesting toast was tin I of Mr X. IT. Steadman, oldest old boy present, who attended the Grammar School from 1877 to 1880,

The toast was proposed by Mr Boardman. and, in responding, Mr Steadman gave many interesting reminiscences of the difficulties under which the school laboured at that early period of its history.
