Hospital Benefits To Begin On July 1

The Minister of Health, the Hon, P. Fraser, announced today tjiat in pursuance of Section 70 of the Social Security Act, he had determined that hospital benefits in accordance with the Act are to be available on and after July 1. Hospital benefits consist of payment from the Social Security Fund for hospital treatment; that is, medical and surgical treatment and nursing care and attendance and maintenance afforded in hospitals. The benefits will be (available in respect to hospital treatment afforded in a hospital or other institutions maintained by a hospital board, in a
licensed private hospital, or in any other institution in which sick or injured persons 'are received for treatment, and which is for the time being recognised by the Minister as a hospital for the purposes of the Act.
Under the regulations which have been made, payments from the Social Security Fund in respect to hospital maintenance and treatment are to be made at the hate of 6/ a day. Payment is to be made direct to those controlling the hospital.
Boxing.—Mayne Morton (Hutt Valley) outpointed Benny Leonard (Australia) in a 10-round professional boxing match at Petone last evening. The v/inner had the lead in every round. The Australian proved himself a clever boxer, but did not have the condition to follow up what few advantages he gained. Both scaled 10.5.
