Appeal Against Rosser Expulsion from Party

DECISION TO APPEAL DIRECTLY TO THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE
OF THE LABOUR PARTY AGAINST THE EXPULSION FROM THE MOVEMENT OF MR ARTHUR ROSSER, ONE OF THE OLDEST MEMBERS OF THE PARTY IN AUCKLA ND, BY THE AUCKLAND REPRESENTATION COMMITTEE, WAS REACHED AT THE MONTHLY MEETING LAST EVENING OF THE EPSOM BRANCH OF THE PARTY.
Mr Rosser is president of the branch, and in view of the situation which has arisen, it is understood that lie has handed in his resignation from
this position
Disciplinary Measure
T. Anderlon, M.P. for Eden, and representatives of other branches in the electorate.
The case of Mr Rosser lias aroused widespread interest both inside and outside Labour circles, and the appeal to the national executive of the party is the upshot of the L.R.C. adopting disciplinary measures towards him for opposing Labour candidates at the municipal elections in 1938, after he had been rejected as a candidate at the customary ballot conducted by members of the committee.
Union Supports Chief.
Support for Mr Rosser has also come at this stage from the Clothing Trades Union, cf which he was at one time president.
This organisation some time back communicated with the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, suggesting that Mr Rosser should be given a seat in the Legislative Council in recognition of his long service to the Labour cause, and at a more recent meeting still, its members resolved to support any action which the Epsom branch might take in his defence. tl was also an instruction from this meeting that, the secretary. At last night's meeting it is believed that resentment was expressed at the L.R.C. neglecting to consult the branch before taking its drastic stop. Reticence Observed.
Communicated with today, Mr Rosser - declined to discuss the proceedings at last evening’s meeting. Mr Rosser’s attitude is believed to be in line with a decision by branch members not to communicate in the matter with the Press.
