The Office Boy’s Teaser

“The early bird gathers no moss!”

I blinked twice, and pinched myself just to make sure I was awake.

Then I read the next line on the paper the Office Boy had given me.

“A bird in the hand catches the worml”

“Least said soonest mended.” I quoted, and raised an eyebrow at the Office Boy.

The Office Boy had taken 20 wellknown proverbs and cut each one in half. Then he joined up all the halves to give us twenty pied proverbs. Your job is to sort out the proverbs and write each one correctly. For example, Proverb 1 should be: “The early bird catches the worm.”

Write your entry on a sheet of paper to which is added your full name, address and age, and the best riddle you know, then post the competition to reach Kupe, C/o “Advocate” Office, Water Street, Whangarei, not later than a fortnight from to-day. Half-crowns for the best entries received—and best thanks to the Office Boy for an amusing teaser!
