Wellington Methodists 5 Memorial Dedicated

A monument and drinking fountain erected in the Manners’ Street Reserve. Wellington, to mark the site of the first Christian service held in Tc Aro on Sunday, June - 9, 1839. by two pioneer Methodist missionaries, the Rev. J. H. Bumby and the Rev. John Hobbs, was dedicated yesterday afternoon by the Rev, Angus Mcßea'.?, of Ashburton, president of the Methodist Conference.
After the dedicating of the memorial it was presented to the City of Wellington, being accepted by the mayor, Mr T C. A. Hislop.
The service, held in the presence of a large gathering, commemorated the first century of the Methodist Church in Wellington.
The Rev. Percy Paris. Minister of the Taranaki Street Wesley Church, presided, many leading citizens and
repersentaives of other religious denominations and the Maori race being present.
