“I think the mayors of provincial towns should follow the load given by the mayors of Auckland and Wellington in encouraging recruiting for units that have been reconstituted.”

said Major-General J. E. Duigan, commenting on the latest figures of applications to join the National Military Reserve.

These figures, up to nine o'clock on Saturday morning, showed the Dominion total at 0823. Wellington headed the list with 1083, closely followed by Auckland. 1004, Christchurch was third, with 092.

Major-General Duigan added that lie included in his remarks also the local bodies in rural districts, from which were obtained men for mounted regiments.
