Musical Party For The Y.W.C.A.

A delightful party was held ( in the spacious home of Mrs Tudehope. senr., on Tuesday in aid of Y.W.C.A. funds. A varied programme of music, elocuticnaiy items and play reading had been arranged by Mrs H. Crawford. Solos were given by Mesdaraes Marsden Woods, R. Stevenson, a pianoforte solo by Mrs Blanshard and elocutionary items by Mrs Criffen. After the serving of a dainty tea the programme continued with vocal duets by Mesdames W. J. Court and T. Maliindine, and a play reading, “Acid Drops.” Those taking part in this amusing sketch of life in an institution were Mesdames Wolfe. Woolley, Marsden Woods, Booth. Dyer, Harmon Smith and Miss Bennett.

At the conclusion of the programme Mrs Court, president of the association, expressed her deep appreciation of the generosity of Mrs Tudehope in throwing open her home for the benefit of the movement. This was one way interest in the community could be stimulated in a Y.W.C.A.

A hearty vote of thanks was also accorded Mrs Crawford for the excellent programme and to all those who had entertained so delightfully. Mrs Tudehope expressed her great pleasure at seeing so many of her friends present and hoped that this would be the be-, ginning of their interest in the many activities of the Y.W.C.A. Gym. Club Activities. The Wednesday gym. club meeting had a good attendance of members this week. It was specially gratifying to have a number of sports groups attend, as the one weekly game is not enough to keep a girl physically fit. After an hour of exercises, tumbling, club swinging and apparatus work, basketball practice followed. An energetic week-end is ahead of ail sports teams, with the usual game on Saturday and special sports day on the King’s Birthday. Both the hockey and both basketball teams will participate.

Lyceum Rehearsal for Open Night. The Lyceum held a rehearsal of play readings and choric speaking on Thursday in preparation for the open night to be held on June 8. This function will be the first club effort in aid of the yard cf sixpences that each club has undertaken to raise. Citizens are planning more of a party for their effort, with possibly a sweet stall, some plays by the individual groups, and games and supper. The date has not yet been fixed and will depend upon the progress made with the planned programme.

Next week will be a busy one for some Y members, as the monthly board meeting falls on Tuesday in the afternoon, and in the evening the Mothers’ Club is meeting at Mrs Wiley's home for an evening of music.
