Napier Foot Mystery
[Per Press Association—Copyright.]
HASTINGS, This Day. Indicating the exhaustive nature of the investigations being Carried out by the Napier police in an endeavour to find some clue to the mystery of the discovery of a human foot at West Shore this week, it was definitely established yesterday that repairs to the boot found on the foot were not undertaken in Napier.
It was learned that the make of rubber half-sole on the boot is not available in the district. It was stated by Detective-Ser-geant H. Nuttall last night that the sock covering the foot was a cut-down woman’s stocking.
As far as it is possible to judge, the foot was that of a male, although it is not improbable that a period in the water would swell a large woman's foot to fit a size 8 or 9 man’s boot. According to the detective, there were certain features which might suggest that the foot had been torn from the leg by the action of the propeller of a large ship. This was one of the theories to which the police must give attention. -
Reports of missing persons from other centres give the police a lead. One person had already inquired at the Napier police station to inspect the boot, but was unable to identify the article or give the police any useful information.
