N.Z. Securities Improve On ’Change
[Special io “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND. This Day.
Improved demand for New Zealand securities was a feature of business on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning. Fair activity was maintained. Interest in Government stocks, which has been keener since the new issue was closed, resulted in a definite firming in quotations. Sales in 194649 4 per cent stocks showed an advance of 5/-. A number of other issues, however, had bids above yesterday’s level and firm sellers.
Auckland Gas shares recovered part of their recent drop, closing between 16/6 and 17/3, and Renown Coals were firmer with buyers at 8/3 and holders asking 9d more. Trades' Finance, Gear Meat .and Taranaki Oilfields all sold at improved values, while Berleis, N.Z. Drugs, and other local industrials were quoted firmer.
Bank of New Zealands were active, four parcels changing hands at £2. but otherwise there was little interest in banks or insurances.
Australian industrials were also dull.
