Woman Hurt At Kamo Rail Crossing

Late News

When a small car was struck by a south-bound goods train at the Kamo Road level crossing about 2.30 ibis afternoon, Mrs Ethel Robinson received a cut over the eye and other injuries, which necessitated her removal to the Whangarei District Hospital. Mr Albert Robinson, husband of the injured woman, who was driving, and was the only other occupant of the car, escaped injury.

The car was proceeding towards Kamo, following a bus, which negotiated the crossing safely. Another Car Escapes.

Approaching the crossing, another car passed in front of Mr Robinson, and only just got clear of the rails in time to avoid the oncoming goods train.

Mr Robinson applied his brakes, and the car was practically stationary when it was caught by the cowcatcher of the engine and turned almost completely round. The front portion of the vehicle was extensively damaged, the bonnet lying collapsed on the roadway. Mrs Allen, a passenger in a bus which approached from Kamo immediately following the accident, was quick to render first aid assistance to Mrs Robinson, preparatory to taking her to hospital. , 4
