It is officially stated at Bradford today that the British Government intends to buy 3,000,0001b5. of- tops of 50's quality from the British Empire to expedite the manufacture of uniforms. This will be the first direct buying from partly-manufactured wool.
The value of the deal is nearly £250,000, so that the transaction is substantial, but not sensational. The wool will come, chiefly from Melbourne and New Zealand crossbreds, and the price will be in line with the current season!? modest values.
