Max Baer Beaten by Lou Nova

(Received 3.0 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 1

The heavyweight boxing match between Lou Nova and Max Baer resulted in a win for Nova on a technical knock-out in the eleventh round. Baer weighed in at 15.0 i and Nova at 14 G. The odds were in favour of Nova by G to 5. Before the Battle. More than usual interest was aroused in the 15-round heavyweight elimination fight between Max Baer and Lou Nova, a fellow-Califonrian. The winner will probably meet the champion after the Louis-Galento fight on June 23.

Nova, who was a G-to-5 favourite, had impressed observers with his stamina and gradual boxing improvements under Braddock's tutelage, although he still lacks decisive punching ability or aggressiveness. -

Some- sports commentators said Baer had not been impressive against sec-ond-rate sparring partners, and lacked sparkle and. speed, although his right hand is still capable of administering drastic punishment. The consensus of opinion was that Baer must beat Nova before the sixth round, with a long fight giving Nova the advantage. One sports writer commented that Baer overshadows Nova in reach, size, punch, experience and everything but heart, and the latter might decide the fight.
