Release Negotiations
(Received 3 p.m.) LONDON, June 1. It is understood the Government made representations to secure the release of Lieut.-Colonel C. R. Speers. The British Embassy at Peiping fears that the Japanese also arrested, and are holding, in solitary confinement, a British language officer, Lieutenant Cooper, who went to Lakgan to investigate the arrest of Colonel Speers. He has not reported since Wednesday.
