INSTALLATION OF D.D.G.M.
The event of importance to the 1.C.0.F. Order during the past month was the installation of the new District Deputy Grand Master. Bro. C. Helliei.
This function took place .at the Vinery Lane Hall and was in the hands cl the retiring D.D.G.M., Bro. A. J. Wells, assisted by two P.D.D.G.M’s, Bros. F. Mogford and G. Jensen. These officers carried out the installation with duo ceremony, before a very large attendance of members from Aloha Robcknh. Ngatoa Rebekah. Star of Hikurangi and Star of Whan gave I Lodges.
At the conclusion of the installation ceremony, regalia was removed, and a very pleasant social evening carried on. The serving of a tasty supper capped the occasion, STAR OF WHANGAREI, L0.0.F. Th« two meetings of the Star of Whangarei Lodge. No. 89. f.0.0.F.. N.Z.. hold during the past month, have been very well attended and presided over by the Noble Grand. Bro. R. Waterhouse. - At the meeting on May 16 an initiation took place, and two candidates were admitted to the order and afterwards welcomed by the Noble Grand and members. An enjoyable evening concluded with supper.
At the meeting on May 30 a pleasant time was shared by all at the termination of lodge business. This entertainment took the form of a games night in which all participated in a series of interesting and amusing pastimes. The events were run on a time basis, and everyone tried his hand at each game, the winners of which were awarded certain points. At the close of the contest it was found that two had tied for first and two for second, each receiving a prize. Supper brought a jovial gathering to a close.
During the evening the Noble Grand, Bro. Waterhouse, reported on a very enjoyable visit paid to Waimamaku Valley Lodge, No. 102, on Saturday, May 27, by two car-loads of members from Star of Whangarei, He also mentioned that a pleasant time had been spent at a lodge meeting of Northern W.airoa. No. 56, at Te Kcpuru. earlier in the month, "by a car-load of members.
A.O.F, LODGE. The quarterly meeting of the Ancient Order of Foresters, Court Victory, was held in the Friendly Societies' Hall on Tuesdays May 23. There was an exceptional:/ large attendance of members and visitors from various other courts.
The following officers were duly installed for the ensuing term: Chief Ranger, Bro. Fulljames; Sub Chief Ranger. Bro. Craven; Senior Woodward. Bro, Boreham; Junior Woodward. Bro. Fyfe; Senior Beadle. Bro. Nordstrand; Junior Beadle and Organist, Bro. Taylor. Chief Ranger, Bro. Fulljames, congratulated the retiring Chief Ranger. Bro. Price, on his successful term of office, also his brother officers on their progress, and looked forward to a very pleasant and successful term with their pleasant company and efficient co-operation, P.C.R. Bro. Flewellyn and P.C.R. Bro. Dreaver wore the presenting officers.
Bro. Taylor presented the social activities report. Owing’ to the prevalence of the ’flu amongst members during the past month the bowls and cards tournament were not completed on schedule and it was proposed to finalise both on next court night.
At the conclusion of last meeting the fifth round of the bowls tourney
was played, resulting in ,u win by IV;os. Weston and Palmer 8. against Bros. Farmer .and Boreham 6. The semi-finals set down for next meeting are: Bros. Oldcorn and Fyfc v. Bros. Nordstrand and Nixey; Bros. Ansiey and Ferguson v. Bros Weston and Palmer.
At the conclusion of the installation the court went into harmony. A very bright impromptu concert was the form of entertainment. Bro. Procter opened with a very popular song, which called for an encore. Bro. Nordstrand followed with a mouthorgan solo and then amazed the brethren with a very fine yodelling song. Bro. Taylor, at the piano, led community singing after which lie played an attractive pianforte solo. “Cathedral Chimes." Ero. Weston contributed two songs, which were encored.
M.U.1.C.0.F. LODGE. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Whangarei Lodge. M.U.1.0.0.F. was held in the Friendly Societies’ Hall on Wednesday, May 24, There was a large attendance of members, over 60 being present. A new candidate was initiated and received the honours of the order. Visitors were present from Otahuhu, Auckland and Otago. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted: 1.P.N.G., Bro. E. Barley, P.G.; N.G., Bro. Hawkins; V.G.. Bro. G. Smith; E.S.. Bro. Harvey.
After the meeting a social, was held, which took the form of a banquet, numerous toasts being honoured and items rendered by various members. During the social a mock court was held. Bro. E. Darley acted as M.C. The combined installation of officers of Whangarei, Hikurangi. Waipu. Maungataperc. Dargaville and Taipuha lodges has been arranged for June 12 at Waipu.
