CANBERRA, June 1. The Federal Government today decided not to renew permission for the importation of New Zealand potatoes. The Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies. told the House of Representatives that he was informing the New Zealand Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, of the continuation of the embargo pending an investigation of the position by the local potato advisory committee, with a view to stabilisation of the potato industry. Mr. Menzies added that in the meantime citrus growers who were continually .complaining of the New Zealand embargo on the export of their fruit would be given the opportunity of putting their case, after which the Government would come to a final decision on the potato embargo.
