Territorial Camp Attendance Up 100 Per Cent

[Per Press Association. Copyright] WELLINGTON, This Day.

An increase of more than 100 per cent, on the previous year in attendance of Territorials at camps held during the training year just completed was announced yesterday by the Chief of the General Staff, MajorGeneral J. E. Duigan.

The figures for this year are 7296, compared with 3125 for the 1937-38 training year.

The attendance at camps, which was the largest since the abolition of universal training, represented 73.6 per cent, of the peace establishment of the Territorial Force, and 77.3 per cent, of the strength of the force as at February 28, 1939. Since then there has been a substantial increase in the strength of the force. Most units had reached peace time establishment, and many had exceeded it. Major-General Duigan said that the enthusiastic manner in which all ranks had tackled their work and the fine spirit shown by the units in undertaking arduous training hod been very gratifying.
