Turkey To Promote World Peace

ANGORA, May 24,

The Anglo-Turkish agreement was not an aggressive move, but a contribution toward safeguarding humanitarian ideals, declared the President, General Ismet Inonu, in opening the Republican People’s Party Congress.

General Inonu announced that an agreement in principle had been reached in negotiations with France, while Turkey’s relations with Russia had never been more cordial.

“Today Turkey has fully reawakened,” said the President. “She is not content merely to assure, her own safety, but is ready and willing to contribute to the peace of the world. If slaughter is provoked, Turkey will fearlessly do her duty.” General Orbay has gone to London at the head of a military mission to negotiate for a military agreement with which to supplement the pact between Britain and Turkey.
